Job Description Summary

The Women’s Center STEM Promise Program Coordinator develops and implements leadership, career and technical education programming initiatives for underrepresented students, including women and minorities, for the Women’s Center. The coordinator collaborates with career and technical education (CTE) and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) faculty on developing recruitment and retention strategies using research-based best practices for preparing underrepresented students for high skilled, high wage, or high demand occupations. The coordinator provides educational support programs, direct services to students, and professional development opportunities for faculty in creating an inclusive learning environment. The STEM Promise Program Coordinator, will report to the Director of Intercultural Learning. This position is a full-time, grant-funded position under the Perkins Grant, with options to extend the grant position.

  1. Provide leadership on academic initiatives for the Women’s Center STEM Promise program, including efforts aimed at the recruitment and retention of program participants.
  2. Coordinate the Women’s Center’s career and technical education (CTE) and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programming to increase pipeline of underrepresented students pursuing high skilled, high wage, or high demand occupations and align with the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan.
  3. Provide direct support services to retain underrepresented students to address obstacles keeping them from choosing or succeeding in CTE and STEM programs.
  4. Support partnerships with public schools in TCC’s service region to recruit girls and underrepresented students in CTE and STEM education, including ensuring a pipeline of eligible students to the STEM Promise Program.
  5. Develop a framework for the Women Inspiring Self-Empowerment (WISE) program, the Women’s Center’s leadership development program, to address the unique needs of CTE and STEM students and ensure inclusion in leadership programming efforts, such as career mentoring, to prepare underrepresented students for the workforce.
  6. Coordinate with professional development staff on providing opportunities to CTE and STEM faculty on creating an inclusive learning environment for underrepresented students.
  7. Work collaboratively with other academic and student support services faculty and staff to contribute to student success initiatives.
  8. Collect data and provide reports for program evaluation as requested.
  9. Supervise assigned staff.
Required Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree in higher education, educational leadership, women’s studies, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Knowledge of personal development, leadership development, and student success theories and principles.
  3. Knowledge of effective methods of developing, recruiting, and screening participants in programs designed to empower students to reach their highest personal, educational and career goals.
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively develop curriculum, deliver presentations, and organize special programs and events.
  5. Experience in developing and implementing educational programs designed to support underrepresented students, including women and minorities in overcoming barriers to academic success.
  6. Experience in implementing formal mentoring programs designed to engage students with community mentors in career development experiences.
  7. Experience developing and implementing leadership initiatives that target underrepresented students.
  8. Ability to interpret and apply Virginia Community College System, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and college policies and procedures as they relate to student services and faculty support. Familiarity with ADA and Section 504 concerns, and FERPA regulations.
  9. Project management and/or grant-writing and administration experience in a higher education setting, preferably in a community college environment.
  10. Demonstrated ability to develop, collect, interpret, analyze, and manage data.
  11. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and promote teamwork in a student-centered environment.

Salary Information

Actual salary will be determined based on individual qualifications and experience with consideration for internal alignment factors. The college offers an excellent benefits package. FUNDING STATUS: This is a grant funded position.

Additional Information This position requires satisfactory completion of background checks prior to employment. This position is contingent upon availability of funding.
